Yellowknife, NT (February 1, 2021) – Employers in the Northwest Territories and Nunavut can now report workplace incidents and injuries online through the e-Business service, WSCC Connect.  

“The WSCC has been working directly with employers to test this new service and to give hands-on assistance with the transition from fillable forms”, said Debbie Molloy, WSCC President & CEO. “WSCC Connect guides employers through an electronic reporting process that is easier, faster and more secure.”

A Heavy Equipment Operator and the excavator they were operating to remove gravel from an old quarry site slid into the water-filled excavation.

It is important to assess site conditions, including proper slope or grade as excavations can cause the ground surface to become unstable. Working on unstable surfaces can cause slides potentially endangering the heavy equipment and equipment operator.

A Heavy Equipment Operator clearing snow to build an ice road had to make an emergency exit from the machine when it broke through the ice. The operator was outside of the area tested for safe ice thickness. The operator was able to escape. Work activity was stopped until an internal investigation could be completed.
