September 2026 Governance Council Meeting
- Review of Policy 05.02, Vocational Rehabilitation Services and Programs
The Workers' Safety and Compensation Commission (WSCC) is reviewing Policy 05.02, Vocational Rehabilitation Services and Programs. The purpose of this review is to determine whether the policy provides clear and effective guidance on vocational rehabilitation services and programs.
As currently set out in Policy 05.02, vocational rehabilitation begins with vocational exploration, which is used to develop a vocational rehabilitation plan (VR Plan). The goal of the VR plan is to assist the injured worker in identifying their return-to-work goals and identify a roadmap with time frames to obtain suitable work and/or regain employability.
The policy also sets out the vocational rehabilitation services provided by the WSCC, including a workplace assessment, and job search assistance. In addition to this, the policy establishes the vocational rehabilitation programs that may be available to injured workers, including training on the job, approval for registration in an academic program, approval for assistance with self-employment (in limited circumstances), as well as retirement transition benefits for workers.
