When purchasing goods and services, the Workers' Safety and Compensation Commission (WSCC) takes measures to treat all suppliers fairly and consistently, support the use of northern businesses through the WSCC Northern Incentive Adjustment, and obtain the best value.

The WSCC acquires goods and services by publicly advertised requests for proposals (RFP), tenders, invitations to bid, standing offer agreements, and by contracting directly with businesses.  The WSCC procurement policy 10.03 permits contracting directly with businesses in specific cases.

All supervisors in the mining industry are required by legislation to ensure they are familiar with their responsibilities.

WSCC certifies supervisors to ensure the safety and care of all employees and employers as part of the Internal Responsibility System (IRS), which states that safety is everyone’s responsibility.

The course can certify you as a Shift Boss or Level II Supervisor for Underground or Open Pit, or a Level I or Level II Supervisor for Exploration or General Surface Operations.

The Union of Northern Workers has served notice of their intention to commence strike activity at all Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) and WSCC worksites starting on February 11th, 2019.

The WSCC is committed to minimizing the impact of job action (strike) disruption on our stakeholders. Although arrangements have been made to continue all services for employers and workers, we do anticipate possible delays in service during this time. We regret any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience.
