The WSCC is overseen by a seven-person Governance Council. The Governance Council is responsible for the conduct of business and management while maintaining the credibility and vitality of the WSCC. The Governance is comprised of individuals from Nunavut and the Northwest Territories, and represents the interests of workers, employers, and the general public. The members are appointed by the Northwest Territories Ministers responsible for the WSCC in consultation with the Nunavut Minister.

Over one hundred years ago, Sir William Meredith tabled a report in the Ontario Legislature, establishing what would become known as the Meredith Principles. Like all workers compensation systems in Canada, the Meredith Principles are the foundation of the WSCC.
The Meredith Principles are a historic compromise in which employers fund the compensation system and share the liability for injured workers. In return, injured workers receive benefits while they recover, and cannot sue their employers.

When an injury occurs it can be a difficult and confusing time for everybody involved. To help you prepare, you can print the necessary forms in advance and have them packaged along with instructions to make the RTW process easier.
To report an incident, injury or dangerous occurrence you must complete and submit an Employer's Report of Incident.
A Return to Work (RTW) program is a proactive, formal plan that helps injured workers remain at work or safely return to suitable work. It outlines the steps that workers, supervisors, and others within the organization need to take if an injury occurs.
