Iqaluit, NU (May 8, 2020) – On May 1, 2020 the Workers’ Safety and Compensation Commission filed five charges in the Nunavut Court of Justice under the Nunavut Safety Act.
The Municipality of Qikiqtarjuaq is charged with multiple counts alleging various offences in violation of the Safety Act and Occupational Health and Safety Regulations (Nunavut), including:

Yellowknife, NT (April 8, 2020) – The Workers’ Safety and Compensation Commission (WSCC) today announced relief measures for employers who are unable to make their WSCC assessment payments as a result of the COVID-19 crisis.
Effective April 1, 2020, the WSCC has suspended late payment interest charges and further extended the assessment payment deadline to August 1, 2020.

Yellowknife, NT (March 23, 2020) – The Workers’ Safety and Compensation Commission (WSCC) has developed a risk assessment tool to guide employers in determining if a worker can safely be on the worksite or not under the current direction of the Chief Public Health Officers.
The Office of the Chief Public Health Officer for the NWT has recommended that all travellers from outside of the territory self-isolate for 14 days. These efforts will contribute to slow the spread of COVID-19 in our territory.
WSCC offices are closed for in-person services effective March 19, 2020 until further notice and many of our employees are working from home to help to reduce the risk of exposure and spread of COVID-19.

April 1 deadline changed to May 1, 2020.
We know that employers have additional pressures managing the risks surrounding COVID-19. The Workers’ Safety and Compensation Commission (WSCC) made the decision today to extend all Employer Assessment Payments that were due on April 1. Your new due date for that payment is May 1, 2020.
At this time, all other payments are due as set out in existing payment plans with the WSCC.
