Iqaluit, NU (April 23, 2021) – A video by Skills Canada Nunavut participant, Cassidy Devereaux, encouraging youth to think about workplace safety has won first place in the Workers’ Safety and Compensation (WSCC) annual video contest.

Devereaux’s video, “Summer Student Safety”, is a claymation short showing how students can prevent workplace incidents and injuries while on the job this summer. Their video won $1,000 with a matching prize of $1,000 for Skills Canada NU.

The north is a unique place to live and work. Many of the day-to-day realities of our workplace can leave us tired and worn out. This could be the long hours of shift work, the industry or types of jobs that we do, the ever-changing daylight hours, and perhaps even different types of home stress. All of these factors can contribute to what is known as “fatigue,” which is a type of workplace impairment.
