2025 Safety Dance Video Contest

Every worker plays a role in keeping their workplace safe. Now is your chance to show off what workplace safety looks like for you for a chance to win a fantastic prize!

Here’s how to enter

Who: Open to residents of the NWT and Nunavut. Participants must be 19 years of age or older to enter. 

What: Want some ideas? Here are some suggestions:   

  • What’s your Safety Dance? Watch the WSCC video here, then record your own safety dance.
  • What’s your best safety tip at work? Show us how you make your work area safe. Do you use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), maintain an organized workspace, check that equipment is in good working order, put up safety posters as reminders, clean up spilled liquids, or shovel walkways?
  • Explore the theme: Work safely. It’s everybody’s job! What does that mean to you? How do you, your co-workers, supervisor, or employer work together to ensure everyone stays safe?

Focus on 3 Basic Rights at work: 1) The Right to Know, 2) The Right to Participate, and 3) The Right to Refuse. Learn more about your rights here.
You can use your phone to shoot a video, or you can create an animation, stop-motion video, or a music video.  Use your imagination and our music!
Length: 30 -60 seconds

Submit: Upload your video short to Facebook or YouTube and tag @WSCCNTNU and use the hashtag #WSCCWorkSafely. Make sure you confirm that you have read the rules for participation on the form below. 

Share with others: Share the video on your social platforms using the hashtag #WSCCWorkSafely. Tag friends that might be interested in entering.

Winner: The grand prize winner will be chosen by a team of judges, based on creativity and relevance to the theme. We may share the winning video on our social media platforms.  

Prizes

  • Grand prize: $1,000 Visa gift card for one video chosen by a panel of judges.
  • Four draw prizes: One $250 draw per week for each week of the competition. Everybody who enters the contest by sharing a video and confirming that they have read the rules for participation below, will be automatically entered into the draw.

Rules for Participants 

  • To be eligible for a prize, participants must confirm that they have read the Rules for Participation by using the form below.
  • Contest starts Sept 15 and ends at midnight on Friday, October 24th.
  • You must be 19 years of age or older. One entry per person.
  • You must be a resident of Nunavut or the Northwest Territories.
  • Do not commit any unsafe action that may put yourself or anyone else in danger while shooting the video. Any video showing dangerous activities will not be entered.
  • Do not use offensive or derogatory language or content.
  • If you are shooting at work, always ask your employer for permission before filming or posting any footage.
  • If you are adding music, you are able to use the WSCC’s Inuktitut version of the Safety Dance to your video. Any other music that you choose to use must be royalty-free.
  • Employees of WSCC and their families, including contest judges and their families, are not eligible for any prizes.
  • By entering the video contest, you agree to allow the WSCC to share and interact with the videos on WSCC’s social media platforms in order to help promote the video contest and awareness campaign.
  • Prizes must be accepted as presented.

The WSCC reserves the right to reject any entry for any reason and to determine what content depicts unsafe actions or is offensive, derogatory or otherwise inappropriate for the purposes of the contest.
