The Workers’ Safety and Compensation Commission (WSCC) announces the start of a new three-year strategic plan in 2015. Aligning with our new strategic priority of delivering quality services and outcomes for workers and employers, the WSCC wants to ensure employers have the necessary tools and support from the WSCC to ensure workers are safe every day.
To ensure Northern employers receive the services they need from the WSCC, we will launch a special engagement project to ask them.
Beginning in January, WSCC employee Mike Filipowitsch is calling and visiting employers in both the Northwest Territories and Nunavut. He will visit large and small employers in person in Yellowknife, Hay River, Inuvik and Iqaluit. Employers not in one of those communities may receive a phone call from Mike asking their opinion and needs of WSCC services. He will collect valuable information which will be passed on to the WSCC President and CEO. This information will be used to strengthen relationships with employers across the territories and advance the safety culture across the north.
“We understand that a lot of our employers have strong thoughts, ideas, and feelings about safety in the workplace, and the role of the WSCC,” says Dave Grundy, WSCC President & CEO. “Our ultimate goal is to create a strong Northern safety culture, and we need to work with employers to figure out the best way to achieve that, together.”
The WSCC is excited to embark on this initiative with employers to make the north safer for all workers.
