Media Release: Workers’ Safety and Compensation Commission of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut Launch Inuktitut Website

31st Mar 2016

Yellowknife, NT (March 31, 2016) – Today, the Workers’ Safety and Compensation Commission (WSCC) announces the launch of the Inuktitut version of our website.

The WSCC commits to increasing knowledge and understanding of WSCC services and improving stakeholder access to those services. In support of these goals, the WSCC developed and launched an Inuktitut version of our website.

“We are pleased to support Inuit culture and language, and offer our Inuktitut speaking stakeholders access to important WSCC safety information”, says Dave Grundy, WSCC President & CEO. “We operate in a vast and varied jurisdiction, and understand the importance of being accessible to the people we serve every day.”

The WSCC launched our current English and French website in February 2015, following extensive stakeholder engagement. The new website places an emphasis on reporting an injury, return to work programs, making information easier to find, and offering improved compatibility for mobile devices. Development of an Inuinnaqtun version of our website is now underway.

To view the Inuktitut version of our website, visit wscc.nt.ca or wscc.nu.ca and click on the Inuktitut language toggle located in the upper right-hand corner.

WSCC is an arm’s length government agency responsible for administering the Workers’ Compensation Acts, Safety Acts, Explosives Use Acts, the Mine Health and Safety Acts, and associated regulations.

Together, with our partners, the WSCC provides services to almost 40,000 workers and 4,000 employers across the Northwest Territories and Nunavut. We process over 3,000 claims and conduct over 1,000 inspections annually to ensure the safety of Northern workplaces. The WSCC is unique in Canada as it is the only workers’ compensation organization in the country to insure workers across more than one province or territory. We proudly offer services in the official languages of both territories.
